Hyderabad rental scams follow predictable patterns. Learn to spot them:
Advance payment before visit
Never transfer money before physically visiting the property and meeting the owner.
Pressure to decide quickly
Scammers create urgency. Genuine owners give you time to decide.
Rent too good to be true
If the price is dramatically below market rate, it's almost always a scam.
Owner is "abroad" or "unavailable"
Classic scam setup. Insist on meeting in person before any payment.
Photos look too professional
Reverse image search listing photos. Scammers steal images from other sites.
Multiple people listing same property
If you see the same property from different numbers, it's a red flag.
Asking for OTP or bank details
Legitimate landlords never ask for OTPs. End the conversation immediately.
Refusing to show the property in person
Always insist on a physical visit before paying anything.
Always visit the property in person before making any payment
Meet the owner or their authorised representative face-to-face
Verify owner identity using Aadhaar or other govt ID
Use HousingPal messaging to keep all communication on record
Pay only via bank transfer (IMPS/NEFT) โ never via UPI to unknown numbers
